Lead Infant Teacher – The Learning Experience of Astoria

The Learning Experience of Astoria is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and passionate Lead Infant Teacher to join our team full-time. We are looking for someone who genuinely loves working with infants, understands their unique developmental needs, and is committed to providing a warm, safe, and engaging environment each day.

About the Role
As our Lead Infant Teacher, you will play a central role in creating a nurturing classroom where our youngest learners can thrive. The ideal candidate is someone who is not only knowledgeable in infant development but truly enjoys the work—someone who brings patience, enthusiasm, and a deep sense of responsibility to the classroom every day.

What We’re Looking For

  • A professional with prior experience working with infants in a childcare or early learning setting

  • Someone who is reliable, caring, and passionate about early childhood education

  • A teacher who can provide consistent routines, comfort, and meaningful interactions that support attachment and early learning

  • An individual who communicates effectively with families and collaborates with colleagues

  • Someone who takes initiative, maintains organization, and creates a peaceful, developmentally appropriate classroom environment

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education preferred

  • OR Currently enrolled in an Early Childhood Education degree program

  • Must meet New York State requirements for working in early childhood programs

  • Strong understanding of infant milestones, sensory learning, and responsive caregiving practices

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans that support cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development

  • Provide attentive, responsive caregiving, including feeding, diapering, napping routines, and individualized comfort

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom that adheres to health and safety guidelines

  • Observe, document, and communicate developmental progress to families

  • Build warm, trusting relationships with infants, parents, and fellow staff

  • Create a calm, supportive environment where infants feel secure and ready to explore
